Directed by debutant Atlee, "Raja Rani" is a family entertainer that reiterates the premise of the film - "there is life after love failure; there is love after love failure".
John (Arya) and Regina (Nayanthara) are forced into wedlock against their wishes. Both undergo a rough patch initially in their marriage as they are not able to get over their past romances.
Prior to their marriage, Regina was in love with Surya (Jai), while John romanced Keerthana (Nazriya). What leads to the Arya-Nayanthara wedding? How they forget their romantic past and finally come together forms the rest of the story.
"Raja Rani" is a commercial potboiler that engages the audience in the first half, but becomes predictable as the climax nears, according to critics.
The film has Santhanam appearing as Arya's friend and Sathyaraj as Nayanthara's father. The music has been composed by GV Prakash and the songs are on top of the charts already.
"Raja Rani" is co-produced by Fox Star Studios and AR Murugadoss productions
Here is the review roundup of "Raja Rani"
S Saraswathi of Rediff says, "Debutant director Atlee's 'Raja Rani' is a simple refreshing tale about how to cope with life, when we lose someone we love. The film has a lot going for it and definitely succeeds in entertaining the audience."
Sify says, "Debutant director Atlee's highly hyped Raja Rani starts off promisingly and keeps us engaged in the first half. But post-interval it loses steam, and turns out to be a cheesy, emotionally manipulative drama with a predictable long drawn out climax that goes on and on for 35 minutes."
According to Indiaglitz, "One look at the movie and there might be suspicions of Atlee as a debutant, he gives away a clean family entertainer with no hoopla's. There are two other major contributing factors. George's enchanting cinematography giving a bouncing color to the film, and flows with freshness. And the other is GV's music, if the songs are chartbusters, then the BGM is another success story. They flow well with the scenes right from the start to the end, way to go team."
Behindwoods Review Board says, "The movie's running time is 2 hours 45 minutes and there are moments in the second half leading to the finale which sag. The end product could have been much tauter. To sum up, though the second half of Raja Rani moves along predictable lines, it's still a promising debut by Atlee."
Verdict: Clean Entertainer; Worth a Watch
