Sudheer Babu's "Prema Katha Chitram" has been going rock steady at the US box office despite new releases.
"Prema Katha Chitram", which was released on 7 June, grossed ₹36.18 lakh at the end of the second weekend.
"Telugu film #PremaKathaChitram is rock-steady in USA. Total after 2nd Weekend: $ 62,376 [Rs 36.18 lacs]," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"Prema Katha Chitram" is about four friends who try to kill themselves unable to cope with the failures they face in their lives. All four friends stay together in a farm house, where a ghost takes over the heroine's body. The rest of the film is about how the friends deal with the issue, in their hilarious moments.
The horror-comedy flick opened to good response at the domestic as well as international markets. The film was made on a low budget of ₹2 crore and has reportedly recovered its costs.
Despite new releases, including Siddharth's "Something Something", the Sudheer starrer has managed to sustain good business at the overseas box office.
"Prema Katha Chitram" has won accolades from film critics and celebrities, who have been impressed with its storyline. The film received appreciation from popular Telugu star Mahesh Babu as well. Mahesh, who is Sudheer's brother-in-law, showered praises on the performances of the film's cast.
"Prema katha chithram..totally enjoyed it..really happy for the kind of success d film has achieved..congratulations 2 sudheer ,maruthi ,the director and d entire cast n crew.." Mahesh said on his Twitter page.
Directed by Prabhakar Reddy, "Prema Katha Chitram" has Nanditha playing the female lead opposite Sudheer babu. The rest of the cast includes Praveen, Giri, Eluru Srinu and Ranadheer. The film was produced by Maruthi and its scores composed by Jeevan Babu.
All the songs have topped the charts. The remix of "Vennelaina Cheekataina" song from superstar Krishna-Sridevi starrer "Pachani kapuram" is one of most popular tracks in the film.
