"Phata Poster Nikla Hero" (PPNH), which released on 20 September, has witnessed significant decline in its collections in the second weekend.
The comedy entertainer raked in around ₹4.5-4.75 crore in its second weekend, registering a 75 percent drop in the collections from the first weekend, reported Boxofficeindia.
The Shahid Kapoor starrer was expected to get a good opening, but it failed to rake in the moolah. The film performed well in Nizam/Andhra and Rajasthan areas, while it underperformed in places including East Punjab and West Bengal. The second week collections of "PPNH" is likely to be around ₹6.25 crore nett, which will take the total collections to be around ₹37 to ₹40 crore nett.
According to BoxofficeIndia, "PPNH" is likely to be Shahid's second highest grossing film in terms of nett collections after his 2009-superhit flick "Kaminey" which minted around ₹41.50 crore nett in collections.
"PPNH" is third highest grossing film in terms of distributor share as Shahid's "Vivah" has outperformed the film in that share.
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, "PPNH" is about a film aspirant who turns into a fake cop under certain circumstances. The film has Ileana D'Cruz as the female lead and other cast members include Padmini Kolhapure, Saurabh Shukla, Tinnu Anand and Sanjay Mishra.
"PPNH" is expected to perform decent business until 2 October (Wednesday), when Ranbir Kapoor's "Besharam" is all set for a grand release. Ranbir Kapoor is on a roll following two back-to-back success including "Barfi" and "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani." Expectations are high for "Besharam", directed by Abhinav Kashyap of "Dabangg" fame.
"Besharam" will have a wide release on the eve of Gandhi Jayanthi. The release of the Ranbir starrer might affect "PPNH" as there will be a huge reduction of shows in single screens as well as multiplexes.
