In a dramatic turn of events, young Telugu actress Sai Sirisha who has been missing for the last few months appeared before the Hyderabad police on Tuesday evening.
The small-time actress has been reportedly missing since 20 May. But her stepfather N Prasad Rao, a car driver, filed a missing complaint only on 19 August. In his complaint, Rao stated that his daughter left home on 20 May to attend a shooting on the outskirts of the city and never returned.
Even though the actress was not at home, she was in contact via phone. When she stopped contacting her mother, her stepfather filed a police complaint following which the police registered a case and deployed search teams to trace the actress.
But on Monday, the "Love Attack" actress appeared on a television interview and shockingly claimed that her stepfather was sexually abusing her when her mother was not at home. Later on Tuesday, Sirisha appeared before the Banjara Hills police station in Hyderabad. She also gave a statement to the police stating her accusations on the same.
"She appeared before the police and gave a statement saying she had left on her own as she was unable to bear the sexual harassment by her stepfather," Banjara Hills ACP E. Shankar Reddy was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle.
Sirisha also told police that she was living with her friend for the last few months. The actress, a minor, was produced before a juvenile court and was later sent to a rescue home. Sirisha made her debut as a small-time artiste three years ago. She rose to fame with the Telugu film "Love Attack", co-starring Vamsi Krishna and Riya Achappa.
The Banjara Hills police will begin a probe into the allegations against her stepfather. If the actress' claims are found valid, they will book a sexual harassment case against her stepfather.
