Ajith's 2011-blockbuster "Mankatha" (Gambling), which was re-released in Tuticorin, opened to a massive response from fans.
"Mankatha" was released once again at Cleopatra Theatre in Tuticorin on 31 August, to mark the second anniversary of the film and also to celebrate the birthday of Yuvan Shankar Raja, its music composer.
The Ajith starrer received a massive response from fans, who turned out in large numbers to watch their "Thala" (leader) on screen. Speaking about the response for the film, organiser and theatre manager, Avinash, told Behindwoods, "The response has been simply overwhelming. The show is already housefull and the numbers of eager fans are spilling out on to the streets."
"When we informed them that all seats have been sold out people were willing to buy a ticket just to stand and watch the show. Such has been the turn out for this screening," he said.
The money collected from the screening of "Mankatha" will be donated to the welfare of orphanages and blind homes in Tuticorin city.
"Mankatha" is an action-thriller flick directed by Venkat Prabhu. The film, which has Ajith appearing as a suspended police officer who desires to have more money, is one of the biggest grossers of 2011.
"Action King" Arjun appeared in a pivotal role along with other cast members including Trisha Krishnan, Premgi Amaren, Mahat Raghavendra, Lakshmi Rai, Ashwin, Avinash Singh, Andrea, Anjali and Jayaprakash.
After the success of "Mankatha", Ajith starred in "Billa 2", a sequel to the 2007-blockbuster of the same name. But the film failed to rake in good business at the box office.
Ajith will be next seen in "Arrambam, an action entertainer, directed by Vishnu Vardhan. The actor teams up with Arya in the film, which also has Nayanthara, Taapsee Pannu and Rana Daggubati. "Arrambam" is expected to get released on Diwali.
