Vijay Sethupathi's "Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara" (Idhaaba) has opened to a good start at the Tamil Nadu box office.
It seems Vijay will be having his second hit of the year with "Idhaaba" performing fantastic business in the state. The film, which had a positive pre-release buzz, lived up to the expectations of the audience. The box office figures show that "Idhaaba" is on the verge of becoming another hit in Vijay's career.
The comedy caper has raked in around ₹2.62 crore in the first two days at the TN box office. The film, which was released on 2 October, has registered 100 percent occupancy in several theatres thanks to the Gandhi Jayanthi holiday. The average theatre occupancy dropped on Thursday (3 October) being a weekday, but it picked up during the evening and night shows on Friday (4 October).
"Idhaaba" has earned its maximum collections from Chennai city raking in approximately ₹69 lakh in two days. The film earned around ₹60 lakh from 25 screens in Chengalpet, whereas it got approximately ₹9 lakh from 6 screens in North Arcot area. The Vijay-starrer has performed well in other areas including Coimbatore (~ ₹30 lakh), Madurai (~ ₹18 lakh), South Arcot (~ ₹17 lakh), Tirunelveli (~ ₹9 lakh), Trichy (~ ₹25 lakh), Salem (~ ₹20 lakh) and Pondicherry (~₹5 lakh), reported Behindwoods.
With no big releases this week, "Idhaaba" is expected to perform well in the coming days. However, the release of Dhanush's "Naiyaandi" and Shiva's "Vanakkam Chennai" on 10th and 11th October, respectively, might affect "Idhaaba" collections. Till then, the film is likely to rule TN box office.
Following good response to "Idhaaba", Vijay Sethupathy's upcoming films are also on high demand. According to senior film journalist Sreedhar Pillai, Vijay's new films - "Rummy" and "Pannaiyarum Padminiyum" - are facing strong competition from each other as to which film will be hitting the screens first.
