Mohanlal starrer, "Drishyam" has turned out to be a mega blockbuster at the box office.
The Malayalam thriller flick has become the highest grossing Malayalam film earning approximately ₹ 35 crore. The film is a big success not just in Kerala, but has done pretty well in other states and overseas markets.
"Drishyam" has successfully completed its 50-day theatrical run in Kerala as well as in Tamil Nadu. The film has also done fantastic business in the UK.
According to film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh, "Drishyam" has surpassed the ₹ 1 crore mark in the UK till 9 February.
"Malayalam film, "Drishyam" crosses Rs 1 cr mark in UK. Total till Sunday: £ 98,523 [Rs 1.01 cr]. Excellent... Source: Rentrak," Taran tweeted.
Malayalam superstar Mohanlal should be a happy man considering that two of his films have performed exceptionally well at the box office. After the release of "Drishyam", Mohanal was next in a Tamil film, "Jilla", co-starring with Vijay.
The film has done well in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and other overseas markets. With the success of "Jilla", Mohanlal has two back-to-back hits in a row. The actor's performance has been lauded in both the films.
While "Jilla" is a masala entertainer, "Drishyam" completely belongs to a different genre. The film, directed by Jeethu Joseph, has been largely appreciated for its content. The film's success has put the spotlight on the Malayalam film industry.
"Thanks 2 Drishyam mega success outside Kerala, Malayalam films have become popular in rest of country, especially north India 'Plexes," entertainment industry tracker Sreedhar Pillai tweeted.
The film is all set to be remade in Tamil and Telugu. While Kamal will don Mohanlal's role in the Tamil version, Venkatesh will play the main lead role in the Telugu version. The thriller flick is also expected to be remade in Hindi as well.
