It seems like Aamir Khan's much-awaited film "Dhoom 3" will face strong competition from regional films in south India.
"Dhoom 3" is all set to release on 20 December, a few days ahead of Christmas. While the film is expected to have a solo big release in northern circuits, it will have to battle against a few other language releases from the southern film industry.
Earlier, we had reported that Tamil film "Endrendrum Punngai", starring Jiiva and Trisha, will release on 20 December. It is now officially confirmed that Ram Charan's Telugu film "Yevadu" will hit the screens on 19 December to cash in on the Christmas holidays.
The commercial entertainer was expected to release much earlier. But the film's release date has been delayed due to political unrest in Andhra Pradesh and other big releases like "Attarintiki Daredi" and "Ramayya Vastavayya".
Hindi films have done quite well in south India. In particular, the "Dhoom" franchise has done good business at the south Indian box office. However, regional films will be given more priority than Hindi films in theatres. Considering this aspect, Jiiva's "Endrendrum Punngai" and Ram Charan's "Yevadu" might pose a strong threat to Aamir's "Dhoom 3" in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, respectively.
Moreover, "Dhoom 3" might face strong competition from one more Tamil film. Karthi's "Biriyani", which was expected to release in January 2014, has reportedly been rescheduled to December. Buzz is that the film will be released on the same date as "Dhoom 3". Directed by Venkat Prabhu, "Biriyani" is one of the most-awaited flicks as the director has a fantastic track record with several hit films including "Chennai 28", "Saroja", "Goa" and "Mankatha" to his credit.
