Aamir Khan's recent release "Dhoom 3" has shattered the lifetime collection record of the actor's 2009 film "3 Idiots".
"Dhoom 3" is now the third highest grosser Indian film ever, after beating "3 Idiots" lifetime earnings of ₹202.47 crore.
The action thriller, which is the third film in "Dhoom" franchise, minted ₹211.12 crore in just nine days. The Vijay Krishna Acharya directorial also became the fastest film to cross the ₹200 crore mark at domestic box office.
Hrithik Roshan's "Krrish 3" had earlier held the title of fastest film to cross the double century club.
"#Dhoom3 language-wise breakup [Week 2; Sat]: Hindi ₹ 200.44 cr, Tamil & Telugu ₹ 10.68 cr. Grand total: ₹ 211.12 cr nett. India biz only," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"#Dhoom 3- All Languages Saturday Hindi ₹11.67 Cr Tamil & Telugu ₹0.37 Cr Total ₹12.04 Cr Grand Total:- ₹211.12 Cr," he added.
With no big releases coming up and the New Year holiday, "Dhoom 3" is expected to dominate the market. The current pace of the collection suggests "Dhoom 3" will break "Chennai Express" lifetime earnings of ₹227 crore in its second week.
