If there is a film that stands a chance to break records set by "Chennai Express" and "Krrish 3" before the end of the year, it has to be Aamir Khan's "Dhoom 3".
The action thriller featuring Aamir Khan, Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra, has every chance to break the records of "Chennai Express" and "Krrish 3" not only because of its star cast but also the solo release it will enjoy this Christmas.
Shah Rukh Khan's film, "Chennai Express" holds the biggest opener record, earning ₹33.12 crore. Its domestic collection of ₹227 crore was the highest for any Bollywood film, until Hrithik Roshan's film, "Krrish 3" overtook it by raking in more than ₹243 crore.
However, it may be recalled that Aamir Khan's films broke into the elusive figures, be it ₹100 crore or ₹200 crore mark. His film, "Ghajini" (2008) was the first Bollywood film to earn ₹100 crore at the domestic box office and "3 Idiots", which was released in 2009, became the first film to earn ₹200 crore at home.
"Dhoom 3" has good chance of breaking box office records if the hype around it is anything to go by. The trailers of the film have caused ripples among the movie lovers. "Dhoom Machale Dhoom" song promo has got more than 6 crore hits in a month, while "Malang" teaser has got more than 1 crore hits on YouTube in just two days.
The film will not only enjoy a solo release on 20 December, but also run through Christmas week and New Year. "Mahabharat - 3D Animation" is scheduled for release on 25 December but it is unlikely to pose a threat to 'Dhoom 3". Rajinikanth's film, "Kochadaiiyaan" was scheduled for release a week ahead of Aamir's film, but it has been postponed to January next year. It was also reported that Salman Khan's "Jai Ho", which was supposed to release on 31 December, has been postponed to 24 January, which means "Dhoom 3" will enjoy a long unchallenged theatrical run.
With no big releases to challenge it at the box office, "Dhoom 3" could set records, provided it impresses the audience. "Mr Joe B. Carvalho", and "Sholay 3D" are scheduled for release on 3 January, while films like "Dedh Ishqiya", "Dishkiyaaoon", "Karle Pyaar Karle", and "Yaariyan" will hit the screens on 10 January, but they are unlikely to trouble "Dhoom 3". Moreover, Aamir's film would be able to make good business by the time new films make it to the theatres. [Also Read: "Dhoom 3" Set for Big Release in Tamil Nadu]
