After a slew of hit movies last year Salman Khan is competing with himself in India.
His latest release "Dabangg 2" was expected to break "Ek Tha Tiger" box office records and surpass the ₹200 crore mark in India.
However, the movie failed to achieve both targets. "Dabangg 2" in its third week raked in ₹155 crore in India. The film requires approximately ₹45 crore to enter the ₹200 crore club and stand alongside Aamir Khan's 2009 film "3 Idiots".
The movie enjoyed the monopoly at box offices during the first and second week, but the business of the film declined considerably in its third week.
It raked in ₹106.78 crore in the first week, ₹37 crore in the second week and ₹11 crore in the third week. The second and third week collections were very low compared to that of the first week. The new films released this year affected the business of the film badly.
The release of "Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola" is also affecting the fourth week collections of the film, making it impossible for "Dabangg 2" to touch the ₹200 crore mark at domestic box offices.
His previous release "Ek Tha Tiger" too failed to touch that mark with ₹199 crore. As of now only Aamir Khan is ruling the new elite club with "3 Idiots".
On a positive note, the film shattered the record of Shahrukh Khan starrer "Jab Tak Hai Jaan" and Aamir Khan starrer "Talaash".
