"Dabangg 2" has finally surpassed the ₹150 crore mark in India in its third weekend. The action comedy continued to dominate the box offices despite five new releases.
Arbaaz Khan's debut directorial raked in ₹8crore, taking the overall 17-day total of the film at domestic market to approximately ₹152 crore.
The movie, which stars Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha, has been declared a blockbuster film.
The movie managed to entertain movie buffs in its third week despite facing competition from five films - "Table No 21", "Dehraadun Diary", "Dekha Jo Pehli Baar", "Meri Shadi Karao" and "Rajdhani Express".
The collection is declining with each passing day and is expected to decline even further after the release of romantic comedy "Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola". The movie, which stars Anushka Sharma, Imraan Khan and Pankaj Kapoor in the lead roles, is releasing on Jan 11.
Meanwhile, among the five new releases only the Rajeev Khandelwal starrer "Table No.21" has made decent collections.
The movie received positive to mixed reviews from critics but had a very decent to dull opening at box offices in India. The business of the film increased gradually but not as expected.
During its first weekend the movie collected ₹5.84 crore at domestic box offices. The three-day breakup of the film is: Friday ₹1.55 crore, Saturday ₹2.04 crore and Sunday ₹2.25 crore.
"Has good word of mouth, but it didn't translate into numbers. The biz witnessed day-wise escalation, but the overall total is not as expected. The film performed the best in Mumbai and Mysore, but the severe cold in North India affected its business," trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh said.
