'Chennai Express' to ‘Krrish 3’: Top 10 Highest Grossing Films of 2013

This year two big films "Krrish 3" and "Chennai Express" created wonders at the box office by registering record breaking collections in India.

The first two quarters of the year remained dull with only "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" and "Race 2" grossing in over ₹100 crore. More than 65 films were released in the first two quarters of the year and only a handful of films did well.

The films in the second quarter were majorly affected due to IPL matches in India.

The dry period at the box office was ended only after the release of "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" (BMB) and "Chennai Express" n the third quarter of the year. "BMB" starring Farah Akhtar was a biopic based on Indian athlete Milkha Singh and the sports film grossed in more than ₹100 crore in its theatrical run at the domestic box office.

August release "Chennai Express" starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone smashed all records at the box office, and became the highest grossing film ever. In September, "Grand Masti" was released, which also became the highest grosser in adult comedy genre.

October again saw big films like "Besharam" and "Boss" crashing at the box office.

In November "Krrish 3" starring Hrithik Roshan hit screens, which also created records at the box office by grossing more than ₹220 crore and became a commercially successful film in India.

The coming days other big budget films like "Ram-leela" and "Dhoom 3" among others are expected to take box office by storm.
