Tigmanshu Dhulia's directorial "Bullett Raja" opened to mixed reactions on day one at the domestic box office. The exact figures are expected to be out by evening.
The action thriller featuring Saif Ali Khan and Sonakshi Sinha was a solo release on Friday (29 November). Some critics appreciated the action sequences and punch lines, but others dubbed it as waste of Dhulia's talent.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, "Bullett Raja" opening shows fared well in certain parts of Uttar Pradesh. In other circutis, the film's opening day performance ranged from average to below average and the occupancy in Mumbai was lower. The collections are expected to pick up towards the afternoon and evening.
Last week's releases - "Gori Tere Pyaar Mein" and "Singh Saab the Great" - failed to draw audiences, making way for "Bullett Raja" to cash in on its solo release. "Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela" starring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone is still doing well at the box office but the Saif starrer could overtake it at the box office since Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film is in its third week of theatrical run.
Directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and produced by BrandSmith Motion Pictures and Moving Pictures banners, "Bullett Raja" features Jimmy Shergill, Chunky Pandey, Ravi Kishan and Gulshan Grover in important roles. Mahi Gill will also be seen in an item number "Don't Touch My Body", composed by Sajid-Wajid.
Dhulia had claimed earlier that the film pays homage to 1970s cinema and even compared the bond shared by Saif and Jimmy in the film to that of Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra's chemistry in "Sholay".
The film is about a commoner revolting against the system in the society. He sets his own rules and takes on the lawmakers and entrepreneurs. The film has a tried and tested theme but is expected to entertain the masses.
