Farhan Akhtar's "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" is still doing good business at the box office, despite new releases - "D Day" and "Ramaiyya Vastavaiyya".
"Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" has grossed more than ₹63 crore at the end of second Saturday (20 July). The sports biopic earned ₹53.74 crore till Thursday (18 July). Adding Friday and Saturdays collections, the film has garnered more than ₹63 crore.
The release of two new films - "D Day" and "Ramaiyya Vastavaiyya", was expected to hamper "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" business. Interestingly, it grossed more collections than the other two films on Friday (19 July).
"Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" raked in ₹4 crore on Friday, whereas Rishi Kapoor-Arjun Rampal starrer "D Day" earned about ₹2.94 crore. Debutant Girish Kumar-Shruti Haasan film "Ramaiyya Vastavaiyya" minted ₹3.50 crore on the first day of its release.
The performance of Farhan's film was even better on Saturday, with the film making ₹5.3 crore. The intense sports drama, inspired by the journey of Indian Olympian, "Flying Sikh" Milkha Singh, has already been declared a hit. The film, which was released on 12 July, opened to a dull start. But, its performance improved with every show thanks to fantastic reviews received from critics and film buffs.
The first weekend collections were pegged at about ₹32 crore. The film continued its dream run during the first week and crossed the ₹50-crore mark by Thursday. Friday and Saturday's collections have helped the film to cross the ₹60-crore mark.
The sports film (₹52.44 crore -first week collections) has taken the third spot in the list of top 10 first week grossers, next to "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" (₹107.61 crore) and "Race 2" (₹76.1 crore). It has passed the test on the second Friday making better collections than the two new releases. What remains to be seen is whether the film would be able to sustain its business during the second week.
