Farhan Akhtar's "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" is continuing its dream run at the box office even in the second weekend.
According to early trends, the biopic made about ₹4 crore on the second Friday (19 July). The film is expected to earn even more on Saturday.
"#BhaagMilkhaBhaag Sat should be bigger and better than Fri, as per trending," film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The film has crossed the 50-crore mark within a week, thanks to positive response received which translated into collections. The Farhan starrer has sustained its business even on weekdays. So far, the film has raked in ₹53.74 crore (till Thursday). It is expected to gross more than ₹60 crore by the end of the second weekend.
With the release of "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag", Farhan Akhtar has emerged as a successful solo actor. The actor-cum-director-cum-producer has been part of several multi-starrers including "Rock on" and "Zindagi Na Melegi Dobara" but "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" is his first successful film as a solo hero. The intense sports drama is set for a strong second week, despite new releases.
Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" is inspired by the life and journey of Indian Olympian Milkha Singh. The film has not only impressed the public but also the Maharashtra government which has given tax exemption for the film.
"We anticipated a tax exemption. But the fact that the Maharashtra government acted so speedily is very heartening. The film would now be accessible to those middleclass Indians who cannot afford the ticket prices at multiplexes. That thought makes me very happy," said Rakeysh, according to Bollywoodhungama.
"I am extremely grateful to the Chief Minister and Revenue Minister of Maharashtra for their support in this regard. They've ensured that Milkhaji's inspiring life would now be accessible to many more citizens in Maharashtra," said Farhan.
The director and the actor are hoping that other states would also give tax exemption soon.
