Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's directorial venture "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" is doing stupendous business in Indian markets. The sports biopic which is coming closer towards the ₹100 crore mark has raked in ₹77 crore within 13 days of its release.
"Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" starring Farhan Akhtar has already become a superhit by earning more than the production cost from the domestic box office. And now the film is set to reach another milestone at collection charts by reaching the ₹100 crore mark.
The sports biopic turned out to be good deal for the makers, who said the collections have surpassed their expectations.
Mehra, who is also the producer of the film, struggled for three years to raise fund to make the biopic. To complete the film, he had to let go of 50 percent of its rights.
"Raising money was a challenging task but we always believed that we were going to make it. For three years, I knocked at every door but nobody picked it up and they are all friends," Mehra told PTI in an interview.
"In Bollywood, you can count people on your fingertips. People were not willing to take the risk because of its subject. It is still a cottage industry, very family driven. Corporates have started coming in and they are bringing a sense of professionalism but it is still individually controlled," he added.
