Farhan Akhtar-Sonam Kapoor's "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" has been declared a hit in India with the film minting around ₹44 crore in six days.
"Bhaag Milkha Bhaag", which was released worldwide on 12 July, fetched over a crore through paid-previews on Thursday (11 July). Thanks to positive word of mouth, the Farhan starrer earned big bucks both at the domestic as well as overseas markets.
The first weekend collections were fantastic with the film raking in more than ₹30 crore. There was a drop in collections on Monday (15 July) as well as Tuesday, but the film has held its own doing a commendable job. The overall India collections is now pegged at ₹44 crore.
"#BhaagMilkhaBhaag Thu previews 1.05 cr, Fri 8.50 cr, Sat 11 cr, Sun 12.80 cr, Mon 5.70 cr, Tue 5.14 cr. Total: Rs 44.19 cr. HIT," film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The biographical film on Olympian Milkha Singh has done remarkable business in overseas markets as well. It made more than ₹8 crore in the first weekend at the international markets including US-Canada, UK and Ireland, UAE-GCC, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
The makers of "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" are already in high spirits and held a success party on 17 July. Speaking to reporters, Farhan said, "We are happy that people love this film. The biggest compliment is the acceptance of audience and Milkha Singh and his family."
Farhan was also elated that his family liked the film and appreciated his performance. "My mother (Honey Irani) and wife (Adhuna) are feeling proud of me. It is nice to see this reaction as I was away from them and gave most of the time to this film," he said.
"Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" is Farhan's first success as a solo actor. He was last seen in the multi-starrer "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara" directed by his sister Zoya Akhtar.
