Farhan Akhtar and Sonam Kapoor starrer "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag"  has rounded off its first week collections to ₹53.49 crore at the domestic box office.

The film hit screens on 12 July and garnered positive review from critics. The first weekend collection of the film surpassed ₹30 crore and continues to soar at the box office. The film is doing exceptionally well in Punjab, Delhi-UP and Mumbai circuits.

"#BhaagMilkhaBhaag Thu previews 1.05 cr, Fri 8.50 cr, Sat 11 cr, Sun 12.80 cr, Mon 5.70 cr, Tue 5.32 cr, Wed 4.82 cr, Thu *est* 4.30 cr," film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

In a detailed report by Bollywood Hungama, Adarsh said, "Has ("Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" ) done remarkable business. The film grew steadfastly in its opening weekend and maintained its rapid pace on weekdays as well. The film is outstanding in Punjab, Delhi-U.P. and Mumbai circuits in particular. The terrific word of mouth has translated into splendid collections in Week 1.

"Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" is a biographical sports film based on the life of Olympian Milkha Singh. Directed and produced by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the film has done remarkable business in overseas markets as well. The film succeeded in fetching over ₹8 crore in the first weekend at the international markets, including US-Canada, UK and Ireland, UAE-GCC, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Expressing his happiness and excitement over the success of the film, Farah Akhtar, who plays the role of the protagonist said, "We are happy that people love this film. The biggest compliment is the acceptance of audience and Milkha Singh and his family," Press Trust of India reported.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, who is overwhelmed with the response from the audience said, "The real award is the love of the audience. Even the acceptance of sportsmen is a big compliment for us. They understand and relate to the film more, be it P T Usha, Carl Lewis, Kapil Dev, all are loving the film... it is a compliment for all of us,"

Although Farhan has acted in several movies, "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag" is his first success as a solo actor. The multi-talented actor was last seen in "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara", which also starred Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol and Katrina Kaif. The film was directed by his sister Zoya Akhtar.
