Ranbir Kapoor's "Besharam" has received fantastic response on its opening day at the domestic box office. According to early estimates, the film made a total business of approximately ₹20 crore upon its release.
The final figures are yet not complied, but trade analysts expected the film to earn more than ₹25 crore. Since the film was released in more than 3,600 screens and on national holiday, it was expected to earn more.
The action comedy, which also stars Pallavi Sharda, Rishi and Neetu Kapoor, failed to live up to expectations. Directed by Abhinav Kashyap, the film was panned by critics and received a negative reception from social media circles.
"#Besharam - India *early estimates*: Wed ₹ 20 cr+ Big holiday [2 Oct] + Ranbir after #Barfi and #YJHD + Massive release... #Besharam should've collected ₹ 25 cr+ on Wed. It didn't!" trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The film registered 85-90 percent occupancy on the opening day, which is the third highest after "Chennai Express" and "Ek Tha Tiger". The response in the morning shows was terrific followed by afternoon shows.
The Delhi, NCR and East Punjab circuits made up for a majority of the film's collections on first day. In other circuits like UP, CP and CI, the business ranged from very good to good.
"Besharam" has opened to a good response in overseas markets as well. "#Besharam - UK: Wed £ 58,494 [₹ 58.80 lacs]. Australia: Wed A$ 14,646 [₹ 8.51 lacs]. New Zealand: Wed NZ$ 6,537 [₹ 3.36 lacs]," Adarsh tweeted.
Ranbir's last film "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani", which earned ₹19.45 crore on first day, remains to be his biggest non-holiday opener so far.
