Ravi Teja-Shruti Haasan starrer "Balupu" has had an impressive opening weekend in India as well as in overseas markets.
Domestic Markets
"Balupu" started on a positive note, with the film fetching ₹3.89 crore on the first day in Andhra Pradesh. It is reportedly Ravi Teja's biggest ever opening in his film career.
During the first weekend, "Balupu" had an impressive run at the box office. The Ravi Teja starrer raked in ₹9.31 crore till Sunday (30 June) in Andhra Pradesh. The first week AP share alone is expected be around ₹13-16 crore, according to Jeevi, editor and reviewer of idlebrain.com.
"Balupu" had a fantastic start in Tamil Nadu as well, where the film minted ₹40.25 lakh during the debut weekend (June 28 to 30) from 35 screens. The action-comedy flick has had the best-ever opening in TN as against other films of the mass maharaja. "Balupu" has been declared a superhit in Tamil Nadu, according to senior journalist Sreedhar Pillai.
Overseas Markets
"Balupu" scored well in US markets where it film fetched ₹1.76 crore ($ 296,447) from 60 screens in its opening weekend.
"Telugu film #Balupu has had a robust opening weekend in USA: $ 296,447 [Rs 1.76 cr]. Very good!" film critic and trade analyst tweeted.
The film has grossed more than the collections fetched by previous Ravi Teja films in the US. The total business of Ravi's past releases: "Kick"- $201,000 (₹1.19 crore), "Don Seenu" - $213,000 (₹1.26 crore) and Mirapakai - $250,000 (₹1.48 crore). "Balupu" made around $290,000 (₹1.76 crore) in the first weekend alone.
Interestingly, "Balupu" fared better than the recently released Bollywood film "Ghanchakkar" in the US. The Emraan Hashmi-Vidya Balan starrer made ₹85.36 lakh on 89 screens, which is way below "Balupu" collections.
"Balupu" is turning out to be a big hit film of 2013 not just in India but also in overseas markets. The success of "Balupu" should bring a sense of relief to Ravi Teja, as some of his previous releases have failed to set the cash registers ringing.
