Shilpa Shukla's "B.A. Pass" has witnessed a decent start during the first weekend.
"B.A. Pass" performed better than other new releases, raking in approximately over ₹4 crore at the domestic box office in the debut weekend.
The film showed an upward trend on Saturday (3 August) and Sunday (4 August), thanks to positive word of mouth. "#BAPass fared better than the new releases. The word of mouth has been strong, which translated into ample growth over the weekend," film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"B.A. Pass" is the only film that has registered over ₹1 crore nett on the first day of its release. The film's business was good in Mumbai, where it raked in ₹32 lakh on Friday (2 August), according to boxofficeindia.com.
It even fared better than "Bajatey Raho", "Issaq" and "Nasha" - all three are relatively big films in terms of release and cost.
Despite several new releases, the adult cinema managed to get 1,800 shows in a day and 750 screens.
Directed by Ajay Bahl, "B.A. Pass" is a Hindi Neo noir film based on Mohan Sikka's short story - "The Railway Aunty". The film has been screened in various prestigious film festivals including New York Indian Film Festival, Montreal World Film Festival, ImagineIndia Film Festival in Spain, and Jeonju-South Korea.
Positive reviews and strong word of mouth could help in the film's business for this week. However, "B.A. Pass" might make a quick exit from several theatres, owing to the release of Shah Rukh Khan's "Chennai Express" this Friday (9 August).
"Chennai Express" is all set to have a massive release across the globe. The film will be shown in more than 3,500 screens in India, whereas in the overseas markets it will be shown in more than 700 screens, Taran said.
Apart from key markets like US, UK and Australia, "Chennai Express" will reportedly be screened in Israel, Germany and Morocco.
