According to senior film journalist Sreedhar Pillai, "Arrambam" has got the best ever opening for an Ajith film despite hitting the screens on a week day.
The action-packed entertainer has earned around ₹8.75 crore (nett) on the first day at the Tamil Nadu box office. The film's collections from other states (Kerala, Karnataka and North) stand at ₹1.55 crore and its total opening day figures (India) amount to approximately ₹10.30 crore.
Sreedhar tweeted, "#Arrambam - Ajith's best ever opening !TN = Rs 8.75 Cr, Kerala =0.75, Karnataka =0.60 , North=0.20. Total = Rs 10.30 Cr (Approx). Super."
The stylish entertainer was released on 31 October to cash in on the long Diwali weekend. It received a massive response for advance booking prior to its release thanks to Ajith's star power. Expectations were sky high as "Thala" (Ajith is fondly referred by this name) teamed up with director Vishnu Vardhan after a span of six years when their blockbuster flick "Billa" released.
"Arrambam" had a wide release with the film being shown in more than 500 screens in Tamil Nadu. As expected, Ajith lived up to his opening king image and raked in good collections on the debut day.
The film's screen count will be declining from today (2 November) as two new Tamil films - "All in All Azhaguraja" and "Pandiya Nadu" are hitting the screens. It remains to be seen if "Arrambam" will be able to sustain its momentum during the opening weekend.
With the film receiving great feedback from both the critics and the audience, it is likely to continue its good run at the box office and give out a tough competition to the other two releases.
