Tamil film, "Arrambam" has earned big in the first week, raking in ₹53.9 crore worldwide and it is still doing strong at the box office. With no new releases last Friday, it is expected to do good business in the second week and touch ₹100-crore mark in a week's time.
"Arrambam", directed by Vishnuvardhan and featuring Ajith, Nayantara, Arya and Taapsee Pannu in the lead roles, was released on Diwali in more than 500 screens in Tamil Nadu.
Opened to positive reviews, "Arrambam" became Ajith's best opening film till date. According to senior film journalist Sreedhar Pillai, the film collected ₹8.75 crore from Tamil Nadu and ₹1.55 crore from rest of the country, taking the first day earning to ₹10.30 crore.
The action-packed entertainer continued to do well at the box office despite release of two films - "All in All Azhaguraja" and "Pandiya Nadu" - a couple of days later. It collected ₹36.6 from domestic box office and ₹17.3 from overseas in the first week, taking the total to ₹53.9 crore, according to Andhra Box Office.
With "Arrambam" turning a big hit, all eyes will be on Ajith's next film, "Veeram" where he acts with Tamannah. Directed by Siva and produced by Vijaya Productions, the film is scheduled for release on 10 January 2014.
