Popular Chinese smartphone-maker Xiaomi has reportedly joined hands with the prolific custom ROM developers team AOKP (Android Open Kang Project) to develop the new MIUI 7.0 OS, which will debut with Mi5 later this year.
OnePlus was the first OEM (Original Equipment Manufactured) to collaborate custom ROM developer Cyanogen and later Paranoid Android to offer new UI experience and additional custom features to smartphone consumers. India's top domestic player Micromax, in late 2014 officially signed an exclusive deal with Cyanogen to provide software support YU series devices in the subcontinent.
Now, Xiaomi is collaborating with another custom ROM developer and equally popular AOKP software-team to build the new MIUI v7.0, which is based on the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop OS.
"I wish to announce that all Team Kang members are working with Xiaomi on a new and refreshed MIUI 7, which will be finally based on Android 5.1, and be coming on the Mi 5," said Championswimmer AOKP spokesperson on the official blog.
"MIUI 7, (which the team internally calls codename MiKangy, not to be confused with MiKandi), is a whole new take on the Android UX. The idea behind it is to kang all important features from the top ROMs like CM, PA, Omni and AOKP and create an experience which completely submerges the user in his own world," said the company.
It adds that the new MIUI 7 is very intuitive and within a few months of usage, the user interface will evolve to such an extent, it would reflect the personal traits of the individual Xiaomi Mi5 owner.
That being said, AOKP reminded their faithful custom ROM subscribers the team's work on Android 5.0 Lollipop will not get affected due to MIUI 7.0 (project Mikangy). They have dedicated team and release the new update soon and will continue to provide software in near future as well.
It is learnt that Xiaomi Mi5 will sport 5.0/5.5-inch QHD (1560x1440p) display and ship with Snapdragon 810 series Octa-core SoC (System on Chip), 3GB/4GB RAM, 20.7mp Sony camera on the rear-side and to impress selfie aficionados, it will be incorporated with feature-rich wide-angle snapper on the front.
