Prithviraj Sukumaran's blockbuster hit "Ennu Ninte Moideen" is expected to enter the Rs 50-crore club soon.
The RS Vimal directorial has reportedly collected almost Rs 45 crore from worldwide box office after two months of theatrical run. The film is still running successfully in India and abroad along with the actor's other hit films "Amar Akbar Anthony" and "Anarkali".
If the film enters the Rs 50-crore club, "Ennu Ninte Moideen" will be third Malayalam film to achieve the feat after Mohanlal's "Drishyam" and Nivin Pauly's "Premam".
While "Drishyam" collected about Rs 75 crore, the box office collection of "Premam" is said to be in the region of Rs 60 crore.
Meanwhile, Anjali Menon's "Bangalore Days" was also well accepted by the audience, but failed to make its entry to the Rs 50-crore club.
Before "Drishyam", the highest grossing Malayalam film was the multi-starrer "Twenty 20", which had Mohanlal, Mamootty, Suresh Gopi, Jayaram, Dileep and almost all members of Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) in main roles. The film reportedly collected about Rs 32.6 crore at the worldwide box office.
Whether Prithviraj's first solo blockbuster surpass the collection records of Nivin's film is something we need to wait and watch.
"Ennu Ninte Moideen" tells the real life love story of BP Moideen and Kanchanamala, who lived in Mukkam, Kozhikode during the 1960s. Prithviraj and Parvathy play the lead roles in the romantic thriller, which also has Bala,Tovino Thomas, Saikumar, Sashi Kumar and Lena in significant roles.
