The year is nearing its end and YouTube has just rolled out "Turn Down 2014", a reminiscence of some of the most popular videos, memes, songs and viral trends that touched millions of people across the globe.
The rewind brings together many YouTube celebrities including Sesame Street characters, Late Night TV hosts and Kid President in making a catchy, jazzy video that commemorates all the fun things that happened in the year gone by. YouTube mashed together a medley of the biggest songs from Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" to Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" to create the greatest mixed soundtrack that defined 2014.
"YouTube Rewind: Turn Down for 2014" begins in a futuristic city, wherein a man takes out a cassette from his backpack, which reads "Rewind 2014 Awesome Mix", referencing "Guardians of the Galaxy", one of the popular movies of 2014. Following an action sequence, the video takes you to a classroom akin to that in Iggy Azalea and Charlie XCX's "Fancy".
High School Patriots football player Apollos Hester recreates his memorable speech that went viral to the mash-up of "Fancy" and Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj's "Bang Bang" in the classroom filled with YouTube celebrities. Many participants, including "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" host Jimmy Kimmel, are seen getting ready for appearing in the video, just like the girls in "Let's Take a Selfie", which is mouthed by Matt Bittner, who can talk exactly like a girl.
Next a variety of YouTubers, along with the man from "All About That Bass", are seen dancing to a mash-up of the Meghan Trainer hit song and Pharell Williams' "Happy".
Moving on to "Smosh" whose move to kiss each other is dampened by the "Epic Rap Battles" duo who pour a bucket of what can be safely assumed as ice water, referencing the most popular trend of 2014; the Ice Bucket Challenge. "Smosh" passes it on to "Fine Bros", and the Ice Bucket Challenge goes on further to many other YouTubers, including "Vlog Brothers", Hank and John Green, the creators of Vidcon. John is also the author of bestseller "The Fault in Our Stars".
The music video bit of "Turn Down for 2014" is graced by many YouTube celebrities including Jenna Marbles, Tyler Oakley, Michelle Phan and Brett Nichols, recreating the King of Pop's magic on the dance floor down pat.
A spider-dog that scared many people and went viral also made a cameo and so did the "devil baby".
Nerdist and Tonight show host Christ Hardwick is seen playing video games with the Austrian recording artist and drag queen Conchita Wurst.
Just as John Oliver begins to announce the top story of the night in his show "Last Week Tonight", Kid President interrupts him by waving the flag of America. Meanwhile, Big Bird waves the YouTube flag on the sets of "The Colbert Report". A staff of "Conan" seems to have taken his place while he is seen gaily prancing across the stage.
Super Woman aka Lilly Singh and action movie kid also make appearances before the epic video ends with a homage to the greatest hit of 2014, "Frozen".
