Having watched Atletico de Kolkata take top spot in the ISL 2015 table, FC Pune City will want to regain their place at the summit when they host Delhi Dynamos at the Balewadi Sports Complex on Wednesday.
FC Pune City have won both their matches so far in the Indian Super League 2015, with the first one coming via a thumping 3-1 victory over local rivals Mumbai City FC.
While the first victory was pretty impressive, the same cannot be said of the second, with Pune rather lucky to escape with all three points against NorthEast United, who deserved a lot more from the game.
The Pune manager David Platt will know his team cannot afford another lacklustre performance, especially considering the strength of the Delhi Dynamos team, led by Roberto Carlos.
"Two wins are nice to have obviously, but they're in the past," Platt said. "Now we concentrate on the next game as it is our first game. Regardless of the other results, we don't change our preparations.
"We are in a confident mood because of the results but at the same time we know there are certain aspects of our game we can do better
"[Delhi are a] good team, [with] good players. Some dangerous individuals. We will expect a difficult game.
"But we respect every opposition that we will play, there's no doubt about it. Our focus is on what we could achieve ourselves. We want to dictate how we want to play and hopefully allow the opposition to worry about us."
Delhi Dynamos recovered from a defeat to FC Goa in their opening match by beating Chennaiyin FC at home. The 1-0 victory would have boosted the confidence of the team from the capital, but they will also know some improvements are necessary if they are to threaten Pune at home.
Carlos is still searching for the right combinations and lineup of his side, and the sooner he figures out his best team, the better – the return of the India international will help in that cause.
"Our goal is to make them [Pune] play harder," Roberto Carlos said. "They have good players, but if my team wins, we are going to stay in the top three. This is the most important thing. I know the difficulties I will face here but my team is also very strong after our last win against Chennai."
Carlos, who took to the field in the first game, but stuck to coaching in the second, admitted he is looking forward to making his presence felt on the pitch against FC Pune City.
"We were winning against Chennai so I did not have to go in," Carlos added. "Against Goa I saw that they needed my help so I had to get on to organise things. I could not change the result, unfortunately.
"But [against Pune], I hope to play, yes. I also hope that my team wins."
