The first look motion poster of Vijay's "Kaththi" has crossed 1 million (10 lakh) views on YouTube.
The motion poster, with exclusive theme music composed by Anirudh, was released for Vijay's birthday on 22 June. It received tremendous response from fans and fetched more than 10 lakh hits in less than eight days.
The digital poster shows the important landmarks of Chennai in the form of newspaper clippings. The poster stirred a controversy on social media sites with some claiming it as a copy of New York Times commercial, which was released a few years ago. Despite the claims, the motion poster has received positive feedback from the viewers. They have increased the expectations among fans who are eagerly waiting to see the film's teaser.
"Kaththi" is one of the highly-anticipated Tamil films of 2014 as Vijay has teamed up with director Murugadoss. The film's shooting is progressing at a brisk pace in Andhra Pradesh. Around 60 percent of the film's shooting has been completed and the entire shoot will be wrapped up by the end of July, according to Behindwoods.
In a recent interview to Anantha Vikatan, Murugadoss has revealed some details about his upcoming project. The director confirmed that Vijay is playing dual roles as Kathiresan and Jeevanantham in the film, while Samantha's character is named Ankita.
Regarding the film's title, "Murugadoss" said that the title has a strong connection to the film's story. The director also stated that "Kaththi", which is set in Chennai, is not a gangster flick as it is being speculated. He said that after hearing the story narration, Vijay reacted by just saying "Superna." The directed stated that he did not get such a reaction from ilayathalapathy for "Thuppakki."
"Kaththi" is on track to hit the screens for Diwali in October. The film will be Vijay's second release of 2014 after "Jilla," which was a Pongal festival treat. "Jilla" turned out to be a successful film and Vijay is expected to continue his success streak with "Kaththi." The film offers promise thanks to the impressive first looks and motion poster. It is expected to take grand openings and repeat the magic of "Thuppakki," which was a huge blockbuster in 2012.
"Kaththi" cinematography is handled by George C. Williams and editing is done by Sreekar Prasad. The action thriller is produced by Ayngaran International and Lyca Productions. Besides Vijay and Samantha, bollywood actor Neil Nitin Mukesh, comedian Sathish and Bengali actor Tota Roy Chowdhury are also part of the film's cast.
