Veteran film-maker Ameerjan (Amirjaan) passed away on Tuesday, 17 March, at his residence in Chennai. A few days ago, he was admitted to a private hospital following cardiac arrest. He was 73.
He is survived by a son and a daughter.

Ameerjan began his career as an assistant director to K Balachander and later went on to direct more than 20 films, including Rajinikanth's "Siva" (1989), Vijayakanth's "Uzaithu Vazha Vendum", Karthik's "Natpu", "Poovilangu" and "Vanna Kanavugal", among others.
His debut film was Murali-Kuyili starrer "Poovilangu" in 1984.
Ameerjan's body has been kept at his residence at Kannammal street, Saligramam, where friends and family are paying their last tributes to the film-maker.
Ameerjan's mortal remains will be cremated in Chennai.
