"My next project 'Varsham' is going to be a family entertainer with Mammootty in the lead. The USP of this film will be its characters and their performances," said director Ranjith to IBTimes, Indian Edition.
Mammootty will play as Venu, who runs a business in Thrissur. Veteran actor T. G. Ravi plays the villain role after a long gap in this film. Ravi, who was known for his villainous characters during the 70s and 80s in Malayalam, will appear as Manavalan Peter in "Varsham."
Ravi quit acting at the peak of his career to concentrate on his business ventures, but made a comeback with "Amrutham" (2004), directed by Siby Malayil. Later, he went on to do several character roles in films like "Pranchiyettan and the Saint" (2010), "22 Female Kottayam" (2012), "Celluloid" (2013), "Red Wine" (2013) and "Punyalan Agarbhathis" (2013).
"Varsham" revolves around Venu and his struggles and rift with Peter. Asha Sharath and Mamta Mohandas will also play the lead roles in this family entertainer.
"Varsham" also has Sunil Sugatha, Sudhir Karamana, Harish Perady, Jayaraj Warrier, Irshad and Sajitha Madathil in pivotal roles.
The Mammootty starrer is scripted by the director himself. The cinematography of the film is handled by Manoj Pillai and editing is done by Sagar Raj.
The music of the film is composed by Bijipal and the lyrics are written by Santhosh Varma. "Varsham" is produced by Mammootty under the banner of Play House and is expected to hit theatres on 23 October.
Meanwhile, Mammootty is currently shooting for "Rajadhi Raja" directed by debutant Ajay Vasudev. The shooting of this mass film will be wrapped up on 14 August and is set to release on 5 September as an Onam release.
