As skeletons continue to emerge out of the closet in the infamous Sheena Bora murder case, the Mumbai police are now probing why no FIR was registered in 2012 after the girl disappeared.
According to reports, the Maharashtra DGP has ordered Raigad SP Suez Haque to probe why no case of murder or accidental death was registered even after a burnt corpse was recovered. The body later turned out to be that of Sheena.
Meanwhile, the police on Saturday recovered the car allegedly used to dump Sheena's body after her murder three years ago.
The police are waiting for the forensic analysis reports of skeltal remains found in Raigad district, where Sheena's body had allegedly been dumped. The samples of the bones have been sent to JJ Hospital in Mumbai.
The wife of former STAR CEO Peter Mukerjea, Indrani Mukherjea is an accused in the case along with her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyam Rai in the murder case.
On Friday night, Khanna had reportedly confessed to his complicity in the murder during a joint interrogation of the trio.
Mikhail Bora claims Indrani tried to kill him also
According to reports, police are also looking into the veracity of Sheena's brother Mikhail Bora's claim that Indrani had allegedly "tried to kill" him as well the day his sister was murdered.
Mikhail had reportedly told the police on Friday that on the pretext of discussing a property deal, Indrani had invited him to her Mumbai residence on 24 April, 2012 and drugged him. However, he managed to escape after Indrani and Khanna left the house to allegedly bring Sheena there.
During his interrogation, Mikhail reportedly said the duo plotted to murder him along with Sheena at the Worli flat.
Driver supports Mikhail Bora's claims
Supporting Mikhail's claim, Indrani's driver Rai told the police that he felt that Indrani had considered to murder Sheena's sibling as well, The Times of India reported.
According to Rai's statement to the police, Khanna allegedly strangled Sheena and then put the body in a bag with the help of Indrani. The trio then drove to a remote area near Gagode village and set the bag on fire.
However, when they came back to the Worli reisdence, Mikhail had already left.
Sources told ToI that Indrani was worried about losing influence over her husband Peter Mukherjea if Sheena had married his son Rahul Mukherjea. The report says she also feared that Sheena would have disclosed to Rahul and others about her first marriage to Siddharth Das and that she is her daughter and not her sister.
More people involved?
According to some reports, the police now suspect that there could be more people involved in the murder case.
"The way the crime has been executed is serious in nature. And there are more people involved in it," The Hindustan Times quoted a police officer as saying.
