Amitabh Bachchan-Dhanush starrer "Shamitabh", which opened to an average response on Friday, has shown decent growth and good collection at the Indian box office on Saturday.
"Shamitabh" is released in over 1,500 cinema halls across the country on 6 February. Since the subject and making of the movie appeal to the class audience, the makers released it in maximum number of multiplexes and a less number of single screens in the domestic market.
It is big-ticket movie and has been hyped a lot because it boasts of big names like Amitabh Bachchan, Dhanush, R Balki and Kamal Haasan's daughter Akshara in its cast and crew. Its promos have created a lot of curiosity among the film-goers.
But "Shamitabh" debuted with below average response. The movie registered an average of 25% occupancy in both multiplexes and single screens in the morning shows on its opening day. The film got positive reviews from everyone and the word of mouth took its business upwards in the afternoon and evening shows. It collected ₹3.5 crore nett at the Indian box office on the first day.
The strong word of mouth took its business upwards further on Saturday. On its second day, "Shamitabh" has collected ₹4.75 crore nett at the Indian box office, taking its two-day domestic total to ₹ 8.25 crore nett. Bollywood trade expert Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#Shamitabh Fri 3.5 cr, Sat 4.75 cr. Total: ₹ 8.25 cr. India biz."
As per the early trends, "Shamitabh" has witnessed massive collections on Sunday. The film is expected to rake in approximately ₹6 crore nett at the domestic box office on its third day. Made on a budget of ₹25 crore, the movie is likely to recover 50% of its production in the first weekend.
