The collection of Pawan Kalyan's "Sardar Gabbar Singh" (Sardaar/SGS) has been completely slowed down by "Sarainodu" at the U.S. box office in its third weekend, while "Oopiri" was rock-steady in its fifth weekend.
The dream run of "Oopiri" seems to be unstoppable at the ticket counters in North America. The Nagarjuna and Karthi-starrer was holding 25 screens in its fourth week, which was reduced to less than 10 in its fifth week. The film has collected $5,680 from eight screens at the U.S. box office in its fifth weekend and its per-screen average is $710. Its 31-day total stands at $1,567,151 (Rs. 10.45 crore).
Trade experts had predicted that Allu Arjun-starrer "Sarainodu" would drive fans of the Mega family away from "Sardar Gabbar Singh" in North America. But none had expected the collection of the Pawan Kalyan-starrer to fall so low. Its screen count and business has been reduced to almost nil at the U.S. box office in its third weekend.
The Bobby-directed action entertainer was holding 55 screens in the country in its second week and it was reduced to five in its third week. "Sardar Gabbar Singh" has collected $1,963 at the U.S. box office in its third weekend and its per-screen average stands $392. Its 10-day U.S. total collection has reached $1,069,274 (Rs. 7.13 crore).
"Sardar Gabbar Singh" has become the third-highest-grossing Telugu film in the U.S. in 2016 after "Oopiri" and "Nannaku Prematho." It was expected to become the highest grossing film for Pawan Kalyan, beating the record his last blockbuster "Attarintiki Daredi," which collected $1,522,734 at the U.S. box office in its lifetime. The movie has fallen short of it by a big margin.
"Oopiri" and "Sardar Gabbar Singh" have landed in the fourth and sixth spot respectively, while "Sarainodu" topped the U.S. business charts for South indian movies this weekend. Here is the weekend collection chart based on the report of Bollywood Hungama.
