American technology giant Microsoft is reportedly planning to launch the second generation Nokia X series Android Smartphone in India later this month.
According to the export-import database of Zauba.com (India based logistic company) available with AndroidOS.in, Nokia X2 units numbering more than 25,000 have arrived in India, hinting that Microsoft may soon launch the new X series Android phone.
During the global launch of Nokia X2 last month, Microsoft had confirmed that the new Smartphone would be available in international markets by July, so it's safe to assume that the Redmond based company would release it as soon as possible in India (probably by this month end), which is witnessing an influx of new handsets (budget & mid-range) almost every week. Earlier this month, two big firms- Asus and Xiaomi and a new firm- Obi Mobiles forayed into the subcontinent's burgeoning Smartphone market.
Coming back to the new Nokia X2; this budget Smartphone is a major upgrade over its predecessor in terms of screen size, RAM capacity, CPU speed and camera specifications.
Nokia X2 flaunts a 4.3-inch WVGA (480x800p) ClearBlack LCD screen, 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 1GB RAM, 5.0-megapixel primary camera (with Auto-focus and LED flash), 0.3-megapixel VGA camera and a 1800 mAh battery ,which runs the phone for 13 hours on talk time and close to 23 days under standby mode.
Another noticeable change in the new phone is the inclusion of home button on the screen. Its predecessor just had back button, which also functioned as the home button. However, many users were unaware that pressing the back (>) button for sometime would bring them back to home screen. Hence now, the company has incorporated a dedicated home button on the bottom right side of the screen.
Like its predecessor, the new phone too runs on the tweaked Android Open Source Project OS. It features 'tiles'-like interface seen in the Windows Phone OS-powered devices and instead of Google based Gmail, Play store and Maps services, users will find Nokia's indigenous 'Here', 'City Lens' maps service, browsers and other apps.
It was said during the company's press release during its launch on 24 June that the new Nokia X2 will be priced at €99 (around $135/ Rs 8,100) excluding local taxes.
In related news, reports are surfacing online that Microsoft has decided to wind up the development of Nokia X series Smartphone. So Nokia X2 might be last of the company's phone to run on the tweaked Android OS.
As part of the integration of Nokia, Microsoft is abandoning its experiments in making phones powered by Google's Android system, moving some of its Nokia X line of phones onto Windows phone software, reported Reuters.
