Shashank-directorial Mungaru Male 2 is turning out to be a money-spinner at the box office. The Kannada film is inching closer to recovering its investment, as the business of the flick remains stable by the end of its second weekend.
"Mungaru Male was affected by the Cauvery bandh and following violent protests, leading to the cancellation of shows in Bengaluru, Mysuru and a few other places. Else it would have recovered its investment and earned huge profits for the producer by now," a distributor told International Business Times India.
The performance has made the makers happy, although they are disappointed with the fact that Mungaru Male 2 lost over Rs. 3-4 crore due to the Cauvery row. As per sources, Mungaru Male 2 has earned about Rs. 17 crore at the worldwide box office by the end of its second weekend.
"We are happy with the people's response so far. Mungaru Male 2 has not only done well in Karnataka but also in some overseas centres, which always remain an achievement for Kannada films," said elated director Shashank. The film has minted Rs. 30 lakh in the US alone. It will be releasing in the UK and Europe in the coming weeks.
The movie was supposed to be released on September 9, but the film was postponed by a day following a bandh call by the pro-Kannada groups over Cauvery row. The makers had supported the bandh and released the film with the hopes that it would do well on Bakrid, September 13.
Unfortunately, Bengaluru and many parts of Karnataka came to a standstill on Bakrid due to the violent protests, which badly affected the collection of Mungaru Male 2.
Mungaru Male 2 stars Ganesh and Neha Shetty in the leads. Ravichandran has played an important role in the film, which is made on a budget of Rs. 10 crore.
