Emraan Hashmi's latest outing "Mr X" has registered a drop in business at the Indian box office on Saturday, while the collections of another new release "Margarita With A Straw" (MWAS) remained average.
Amidst huge hype and expectations, "Mr X" released in theatres on 17 April and opened to very good response. The movie collected ₹4.50 crore net at the Indian box office on the first day. It also garnered mixed reviews from the film critics as well as movie buffs across the country on the opening day.
The word-of-mouth took a toll on the business of "Mr X" on Saturday. The Emraan Hashmi and Amyra Dastur starrer witnessed around 10% drop in collections. On its second day, the film raked in approximately ₹4.39 crore net at the Indian box office, taking its two-day domestic collection to ₹8.89 crore net.
As per early trends, "Mr X" showed big leap in the morning and afternoon shows on Sunday and its business is much better than its Friday and Saturday collections. Despite facing the heat of IPL cricket matches, the movie has performed very well at the ticket counters in first two days. It needs to be seen whether its evening shows will be affected by the IPL matches RR vs CSK and RCB vs MI.
When compared to "Mr X", another new release "Margarita With A Straw" lacks hype and promotions. The Kalki Koechlin starrer is a critically acclaimed movie, which was screened at several international film festivals in 2014 and picked up a few awards also.
Released in a limited number of screens, "Margarita With A Straw" opened to an average response and collected ₹50 lakh at the Indian box office on the first day. Its business remained average with its collection reaching ₹45 lakh net on the second day. Its two-day domestic total stands at ₹95 lakh net.
"Mr X" and "Margarita With A Straw" have taken a toll on the collection of last week's releases "Ek Paheli Leela" and "Dharam Sankat Mein" and two-week-old film "Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!".
