Malaysia has blocked access to thousands of porn websites in the country, including eight of the top ten popular websites such as xVideo and PornHub, for violating the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 by screening "obscene content".

According to Asiaone, the Malaysian government has stopped access to eight of the top ten most visited porn websites in the country --  xVideos.com, PornHub.com, xHamster.com, Xnxx.com, RedTube.com, YouPorn.com, Tubecup.com and beeg.com.

In the last few days, Malaysia has blocked access to 1,074 pornography websites for violating the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The government said that the crackdown on the pornography in the country was to "preserve" the values of the  various ethnic cultures and religions in the country.

"It is important for the MCMC to take action as this is the root cause of social problems in our country," Salleh Said Keruak, Communications and Multimedia Minister told The Borneo Post.

The local government also requested the public to help the police crackdown on porngraphy. The public has been asked to inform on any website spreading  "obscene content" (The tip-off could be submitted on http://aduan.skmm.gov.my or via email on aduanskmm@cmc.gov.my).

In August, a porn ban was imposed in India as well after the country's  Department of Telecommunications (DOT) asked Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block access to several popular adult websites such as PornHub.

The ban was later lifted following a major criticism by the citizens.
