"Power" is the remake of Telugu action comedy film "Dookudu" starring Mahesh Babu and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The film was released in 2011 and was declared a super hit with a collection of ₹101 crores. The film also won innumerable awards which include seven Nandi Awards, six Filmfare Awards and eight South Indian International Film Awards. Keeping the popularity of the film in mind, "Dookudu" was dubbed as "Athiradi Vettai" in Tamil, "Choodan" in Malayalam and "The Real Tiger" in Hindi.
In "Dookudu," Babu plays the character of Ajay Kumar, a daring cop in Mumbai whose father was killed in an accident when he was small. Prakash Raj plays as Babu's father Shankara Narayana, a well respected politician in the city. He is given a mission to track down the underworld don Nayak who is the ultimate name for Illegal drug trade, extortion and arms trafficking. During his mission, Ajay Kumar finds truth behind his father's death. The music of "Power" is composed by S. Thaman, who has also done the music for the Telugu version.
"Power" was initially named as "Ashwathama." The team later changed the title as they thought the latter title did not match the superstar image of Rajkumar. "Power" will see Tamil – Telugu actress Trisha Krishnan making her debut in Kannada. The film also has Prabhu Ganeshan, Kelly Dorji, Rangayana Raghu, Sadhu Kokila, Sarath Lohitashva, Chitra, Doddanna, Adhi Lokesh and Dharma in pivotal roles. The film which was shot in the beautiful locations of Spain, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Sandur and Bangalore is expected to hit theatres soon. The Rajkumar starrer is produced by Ram Achantha, Gopi Chand Achantha and Anil Sunkara under the banner of 14 Reels entertainment.
The hero is currently shooting for his film "Ranavikrama" in Hampi.
