Ms Choi, the ex-girlfriend of South Korean actor Kim Hyun Joong, filed a lawsuit against the celeb and his legal representative Lee Jae Man on Friday, 7 August.
After registering the case at Supreme Prosecutors' Office of the Republic of Korea in Seoul, Ms. Choi released an official statement through her legal representative, explaining the various reasons for making the move against her former lover.
"Through the suspects' biased assertions which were revealed through the media, the general public's sentiment recognises my client (Ms. Choi) as a 'gold-digger' and 'blackmailer,' and [Kim Hyun Joong] even finished filing criminal charges against my client for suspicions of blackmail, fraud, and the like on July 23 of last year," read the statement.
On 5 August, the legal representative of Hyun Joong had released a statement informing the prosecution had banned his ex- girlfriend from leaving Korea, according to Koreaboo.
"Ms. Choi is suspected of extortion, false accusations, fraud, and defamation. Due to her suspected crimes, a severe punishment is predicted to be imposed on Ms. Choi, whom prosecution has prohibited from leaving the country," he stated.
Explaining the court order, Choi's representative stated that the 29-year-old actor is continuously accusing his client to gain public sentiments. "[He] has continuously lied about concerns that my client will flee overseas and how she is hiding something, killing her reputation, doing as they please, and provoking the temporary interest of the public and raising distrust in the lawsuit," he said.
The representative even stated that Ms Choi is residing "at Songpa's Bangi-dong for near thirty years" and there is no question of fleeing the country. "She has only conducted a single interview thus far to explain her side of the story. There weren't any protection of influence, [manipulation] from behind the scenes, and no exchanging of money," he added.
The legal representative also spoke about the negative impact of the legal dispute on his client's health. "The suspects have continuously imparted great emotional shock and stress to my client, which may cause her to experience a difficult delivery [childbirth]."
Although Hyun Joong and his legal representative are yet to respond to the recent lawsuit, they have been denying all of Choi's previous, including the set of conversation records submitted by her in court.
