The Independence Day weekend witnessed the released of three Malayalam movies, which have opened to mixed responses from the audience. Jayasurya's horror comedy entertainer, action thriller "Inspector Dawood Ibrahim" (IDI) and Biju Menon's "Marubhooyile Aana" locked horns at the Kerala box office on Aug. 12.
Both the Jayasuya movies are said to have crossed the Rs. 2 crore marks within three days in Kerala. Director Ranjith Sankar's horror movie, also starring Aju Varghese, Sharafudheen, Govind Padmasoorya and Pearle Maaney, is believed to have earned a gross amount of Rs. 2.67 crore after completing three days of its theatrical run in the state. The four days total collection of the Jayasurya-starrer is approximately Rs. 30.51 lakh from the multiplexes in Kochi alone.

"More than 30% raise in collections from day 1 to day 2!!:) From an already good initial day to an excellent second day [sic]," Ranjith had posted on his Facebook page. Some unconfirmed reports also suggest that the film did a business of Rs. 3.8 crore in four days. If it turns out to be true, "Pretham" is the highest grosser of Jayasurya till date.
Meanwhile, the versatile actor's cop movie, directed by actor-turned-filmmaker Sajid Yahiya, has been tagged as a mass entertainer like many Telugu thrillers. The makers announced that "IDI" has collected more than Rs. 2 lakh within three days in Kerala.
However, Mohanlal's multi-lingual family entertainer "Vismayam"("Manamantha" in Telugu and "Namadhu" in Tamil) has failed to make a notable mark at the Kerala box office and is believed to have grossed just Rs. 3.36 crore from 8 days of run in the state. Mammootty's romantic entertainer "White" has also become the first flop of the megastar this year.
