Among the Onam releases this year, it is Mohanlal's crime thriller Oppam that has become the highest grosser of the festive season. It is followed by Prithviraj Sukumaran's revenge thriller Oozham, which has been garnering positive response from audience.
According to trade analysts, Priyadarshan's directorial venture Oppam is said to have earned a gross amount of Rs 32.83 crore at Kerala box office within 26 days of its theatrical run. The movie, which also stars Sampanth, Baby Meenakshi, Nedumudi Venu, Anusree, Vimala Raman and Renji Panicker in significant roles, has become one of the biggest releases of Mohanlal.
The thriller is said to have made a collection of Rs 1.56 crore from Kerala on the opening day alone. The movie minted approximately Rs 12.6 crore in seven days and has now crossed the Rs 33 crore mark in less than a month of its release.
Oppam is followed by revenge thriller Oozham, directed by Drishyam-fame Jeethu Joseph. The movie is said to have collected Rs 15.25 crore after successfully running for 25 days in the state.
However, Dileep's Welcome to Central Jail, directed by Sundar Dass, opened to mixed response from the audience in Kerala. It is in the third spot among the Onam releases with a gross collection of Rs 20.07 crore within 25 days of its theatrical run in Kerala, as revealed by the makers of the movie on its Facebook page.
Meanwhile, Vikram's science fiction Irumugan is believed to have made Rs 8.56 crore within 26 days from Kerala alone.
