Dulquer Salmaan's latest Malayalam movie "Kammatipaadam" has been garnering mixed responses from movie-goers ever since it was released in theatres in Kerala, Chennai, Coimbatore, Bengaluru and Mumbai on May 20.
The Rajeev Ravi-directed film has collected approximately Rs. 1.52 crore on its opening day at the Kerala box office, thus becoming the top fifth Malayalam movie with highest first day collection after "Kali," "Kig Liar," "Darvinte Parinamam" and "Action Hero Biju." "#Kammattipaadam Day 1 Kerala Gross apprx 1.52Cr ! Share 71 lakhs ! Very Gud opening ! [sic]," tweeted Kerala Box Office. However, "Kammatipaadam" has failed to beat the collection record of the actor's previous film "Kali," which had minted Rs. 2.34 crore on its opening day at the Kerala box office. The Sameer Thahir movie, which had Sai Pallavi in the lead, has been ranked on the top spot among the highest grossing Malayalam films in 2016.
"Kammatipaadam" has reportedly collected a gross amount of Rs. 4.01 crore within three days of its theatrical run in Kerala. "#Kammatipaadam 1st Weekend Kerala Gross 4.01cr #Superb NB - DQ's Last Two 3 Days Gross #Charlie 5.31cr and #Kali 5.76cr [sic]," tweeted Malayalam Review. The film is said to have collected Rs. 27 lakh from the multiplexes in Kochi after completing three days of theatrical run in the city despite having less number of shows. However, the Dulquer-starrer has again failed to beat the three-day collection record of the up and coming actor's "Kali," which had earned Rs. 42 lakhs from Kochi multiplexes. "#Kammattipaadam 3 Days Kochi Multiplex Collection 27Lacs Good(Less no Of Shows) NB - #Kali 42Lacs [sic]," tweeted Malayalam Review.
Although the flick had a good run during the first weekend, the collection of the film witnessed a drop with below average theatre occupancies during morning and noon shows on Monday. Meanwhile, the action thriller, which is narrated in the backdrop of a place named Kammatipaadam in Kochi, is said to have earned almost Rs. 5.66 lakh during its first weekend at the Chennai box office.
