Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has landed in a controversy by campaigning for Ganesh Kumar in Kerala Assembly election 2016. Upset actor Salim Kumar has resigned from Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes.
Actor-turned-politician KB Ganesh Kumar is contesting for the Kerala Assembly election from the LDF (Left Democratic Front) in the Pathanapuram constituency of Kollam. Mohanlal attended a political campaign in the constituency on Thursday evening. "Ganesh is a personal friend and I have come to meet him," NDTV quoted the superstar as saying during his address.
But Mohanlal's special appearance at the campaign created a stir in the AMMA, with some venting out their anger against him. Salim Kumar was the first to express his disappointment over his cameo and he alleged that the actor broke the unwritten code of AMMA. That's not all! The National award-winning actor went on to quit the actors' Association.
Noted southern film critic Sreedhar Pillai â€tweeted on May 13, "#SalimKumar resigns from #AMMA, in protest against @Mohanlal campaigning 4 #GaneshKumar in Pathanapuram, where he is fighting another. actor #Jagadish. At Amma meeting it was made clear that actors will not campaign 4 other actors who r contesting.@Mohanlal has broken it. (sic)"
"Mohanlal is the vice-president of the body and the rules were broken by him when he went and campaigned for Ganesh Kumar." "Two other actors, Jagdish and Bheemen Reghu are contesting as rival candidates in the same constituency. I am a Congress supporter and I could have campaigned for Jagdish, but I did not because of the unwritten understanding," Salim Kumar told the TV channel.
Jagdish is contesting as Congress candidate against Ganesh. "We know each other for several decades and the feeling here is since he came to meet Ganesh Kumar, he should have called on both of us too," the comedian told NDTV.
