Raghava Lawrence starrer "Kanchana 2" has been declared a blockbuster. The Tamil movie has made earth-shattering business in its 10-day run in the theatres and enabled the makers to earn good profits.
The Tamil movie, which released on 17 April, has collected ₹40 crore in 10 days. The profit margin of the movie is very high and all sectors of the business (producer, distributors and exhibitors) have made handsome money from the movie. As a result, the trade is completely happy and says that the movie is undoubtedly the biggest hit of 2015 so far in terms of profit.
Confirming the gross business of the movie, leading trade tracker Sreedhar Pillai wrote, "#Kanchana2 Mega Blockbuster- 2nd weekend (Apr 24 to 26) TN Gross = Rs 11 Cr (approx). Total TN Gross 10 Days = Rs 40C"
It is not the end for the producer as the Telugu version of "Kanchana 2" is set for release. The positive reviews of the Tamil version can be seen as an advantage for the film in getting good opening in Andhra Pradesh.
Traders in Tamil Nadu are expecting "Kanchana 2" to reach the ₹100-crore mark. However, we have to wait and see how the release of Kamal Haasan's "Uttama Villain" will impact the business of Raghava Lawrence's film. Also, Mani Ratnam's "Ok Kanmani" is doing well at the multiplexes and some centres too, giving competition to the horror thriller.
"Kanchana 2" is the third instalement in the "Muni" franchise and it is notable that all three are hits. The latest version features Taapsee Pannu in the female lead role. Kovai Sarala, Jayaprakash, Rajendran, Manobala, Mayilsamy, Sriman, and others are also part of the cast.
