Punjabi movie "Judge Singh LLB" has taken a toll on the collection of the last week's release "Mukhtiar Chadha" at the US, Australia and New Zealand box offices in its opening weekend.
"Judge Singh LLB" opened to average response in North America and could not show much growth on the following days. The film has raked in $12,270 (Rs 8.18 lakh) from 25 screens in the US, A$25,708 (Rs 12.55 lakh) from 14 screens in Australia and NZ$3,136 (Rs 1.39 lakh) from three screens in New Zealand in the first weekend.
"Mukhtiar Chadha" had done super collection in these counties in its opening weekend. The movie lost some of its cinema halls to new release "Judge Singh LLB", which took a toll on its business. The film has collected $5,320 from 14 screens in the US, A$7,892 from 25 screens in Australia and NZ$1,772 from eight screens in New Zealand in its second weekend.
"Mukhtiar Chadha" has done decent business of $13,411 from 13 screens in Canada and £6,625 from nine screens in UK. Its 10-day total collection stands at $63,488 in the US, $95,204 in Canada, £42,991 in the UK, A$129,323 in Australia and NZ$43,048 in New Zealand.
Directed by Vivek Ohri, "Mukhtiar Chadha" is a romantic comedy starring Diljit Dosanjh and Oshin Brar. The film was released in 85 cinema halls in the five key international markets on 27 November and has done decent business. The film has collected $346,594 (Rs 2.31 crore) at the overseas box office in 10 days.
"Judge Singh LLB", which has been written and directed by Atharv Baluja, is the first Punjabi courtroom drama that has dollops of suspense and a decent seasoning of humour. The Anita Devgan, Hardeep Gill, Ravinder Grewal-starrer released in 42 theatres in three key foreign markets. The film has collected approximately $33,135 (Rs 22.12 lakh) at the overseas box office in its opening weekend.
