Bollywood filmmakers have often been in news for remaking movies from Hollywood. While "Satte Pe Satta" was inspired from "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers", "Chachi 420 was a remake of "Mrs Doubtfire."
Here are a few 21st century Bollywood films that have are Hollywood remakes.
Raaz (2002) – What Lies Beneath (2000)
"Raaz" was directed and produced by the 'Bhatt' camp, which was released in the year 2002. The movie was an unofficial adaptation of a Hollywood film "What Lies Beneath" (2000) directed by Robert Zemeckis. The Hindi remake starred Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea, who play a married couple. They move to Ooty to save their marriage. Basu goes through many mhostly experiences in the hill station and finds out that the reason is related to her husband. Actor Ashutosh Rana also plays an important character in the movie.
Murder (2004) – Unfaithful (2002)
Emraan Hashmi and Mallika Sherawat starrer "Murder" (2004) was directed by Anurag Basu, which received 'A' certificate from the Indian Censor Board for its erotic scenes. This Hindi erotic thriller is a remake of "Unfaithful", a Hollywood movie released in 2002 starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane. The Hindi movie was a super hit and cash registers ringing.
Black (2005) – The Miracle Worker (1962)
Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed "Black" released in 2005 starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherji was a huge box Office success. The movie is inspired from 1962 classic "The Miracle Worker", which is based on the autobiography of Helen Keller. The storyline of the Hindi remake is about a blind and deaf girl and her bond with her teacher.
Heyy Babyy (2006) – Three Men and A Baby (1987)
The Hindi comedy "Heyy Babyy" (2006) produced by Sajid Nadiadwala is based on the journey of three bachelors, who change their lifestyle on the arrival of one of the men's love child. It is a remake of 1987 Hollywood film "Three Men and A Baby," which made it huge at the American box office.
Partner (2007) – Hitch (2005)
Salman Khan and Govinda starrer "Partner" was a rom-com movie of 2007. Khan played the character of love guru and guided Govinda to get his lady love. The film is a remake of "Hitch", a Hollywood movie of 2005 starring Will Smith.
Ghajini (2008) – Memento (2000)
The film "Ghajini" was an action packed psychological thriller of 2008, starring Aamir Khan and Asin. The movie revolves around a rich man who develops anterograde amnesia after his girlfriend gets killed and wants revenge. It is copied from Christopher Nolan's Memeto which was released in 2000.
Dil Bole Hadippa! (2009) – She's the Man (2006)
"Dil Bole Hadippa!" failed to make a mark at the box office. Starring Shahid Kapoor and Rani Mukherji in the lead, the film is a Hollywood remake of "She's the Man", which starred Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum. The storyline is about a girl, who pretends to be a guy to play her favorite sport.
We Are Family (2010) – Stepmom (1998)
Kajol, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Arjun Rampal starrer "We are Family" was released in 2010, which is a remake of Hollywood movie "Stepmom" (1998) with Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon. The story revolves around a family where the father and mother are divorced and have three children. The father has a girlfriend, with who the mother wants the children to bond as she discovers that she is dying of cancer.
F.A.L.T.U (2011) – Accepted (2006)
A Hindi comedy directed by the famous choreographer Remo D'Souza, F.A.L.T.U. was released in 2011. The story involves a group of friends and their journey to prove themselves following a wrong path that at the end turns out to be right. It is a remake of "Accepted", a 2006 Hollywood comedy movie by Steve Pink.
Jai Ho (2014) – Pay it Forward (2000)
Salman Khan starrer "Jai Ho" (2014) was an action drama film produced by Sohail Khan. Salman plays the character of an ex-army officer, who likes to help people and punishes criminals as one-man army. The movie is inspired by the 2000 Hollywood movie "Pay it Forward" by Catherine Ryan Hyde.
