Nikhil Kumar's Jaguar has done fairly well at the box office. The Kannada movie, which was released on October 6 on the occasion of Dasara, is now likely to be affected by new releases like Yash's Santhu Straight Forward, and Upendra and Sudeep's Mukunda Murari.
Jaguar was released in over 200 screens in Karnataka. Since its release, it has faced competition from films like Yogaraj Bhat's Dana Kayonu, Prakash Raj's Edolle Ramayana and Ramya's Nagarahaavu. Apparently, it did not have much impact on Nikhil Kumar's film, which was reduced to 150 screens last week.
However, now the business of Jaguar is likely to take a toll as Yash's Santhu Straight Forward and Upendra and Sudeep's Mukunda Murari are plucking at least 30-40 screens from Nikhil's film.
So far, Jaguar has minted over Rs 20 crore, which is a huge number for a debutant's film. The movie was simultaneously released in Kannada and Telugu languages. The makers had pinned high hopes on its performance at the Telugu box office. Unfortunately, it has not lived up to their expectations.
Jaguar is the launchpad of Nikhil Kumar, who happens to be former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's grandson and former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy's son. The movie features Mumbai-based model Deepti Sati in the female lead role while Brahmanadam, Jagapathi Babu, Sadhu Kokila, Sampath Raj and many others play other significant roles.
The Kannada version is directed by debutant Mahadev and produced by HD Kumaraswamy under his home banner of Channambika Films. The story and screenplay have been written by Vijayendra Prasad, the father of leading South Indian filmmaker SS Rajamouli.
Meanwhile, Mukunda Murari and Jaguar are likely to be released in over 250 screens on October 28 in Karnataka and other states.
