Music maestro and two-time Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman celebrates his 49th birthday on 6 January, 2016. Celebrities, including Lata Mangeshkar, KS Chitra, Dulquer Salmaan, Thaman S, Sujatha Mohan, Sonam Kapoor, Vikram Prabhu, Venkat Prabhu, Yami Gautam and Sonal Kulkarni, have wished the greatest Indian musician on his special day.

With wishes flooding in from all over the world, Rahman thanked everyone for making his day special and added that he feels lucky for not crossing the half century in age yet. "To my dearest friends, fans, family and well-wishers...Thank you for your kind birthday wishes, prayers and affection. You inspire me to work harder and make even more beautiful music. Luckily I am not yet 50! May the Almighty keep us all united, keep our hearts pure and compassionate. Let us make the world a beautiful place with connected wisdom, love and care, (sic)" AR Rahman posted on his Facebook page thanking for wishing him on his 49th birthday.

Meanwhile, some music videos dedicated as a birthday gift to Rahman have been doing the rounds on social media. It includes Voctronica's a-cappella medley "Evolution of A R Rahman" and Kerala's Maharaja's College students' group Muzart's "Café Qawwaali", which is a musical tribute to the legendary musician.

Rahman, who won the Academy Award in 2009 for Best Original Score and Best Original Song for Danny Boyle's 2008 film "Slumdog Millionaire", is also a recipient of National Awards for best music director for the movies "Roja", "Minsara Kanavu", "Lagaan" and "Kannathil Muthamittal". He has also won two Grammy Awards, a BAFTA Award, a Golden Globe and 15 Filmfare Awards, among many others.
