Among the many chefs who are the culinary world's pride, Gordon Ramsay stands out. The Michelin-star restaurateur has appeared on several TV shows, including his famous "Hell's Kitchen", "MasterChef US", "Kitchen Nightmares", and "Hotel Hell". But fame and success did not come easy for the 49-year-old.
Chef Ramsay often describes his decision to study at a catering college as "an accident, a complete accident." Nevertheless, he trained under some of the best chefs in the culinary world, including British celebrity chef Marco Pierre White, Guy Savoy and Joël Robuchon. Now, the "MasterChef US" judge boasts of several restaurants in the UK, the US, Europe, Hong Kong, Doha, Japan, Singapore and Dubai.
Although Chef Ramsay is known for his quick temper, profanity and insults on TV shows, he also has a different side. On many "MasterChef US" episodes, he is a doting father, an inspiration and compassionate to home-cooks.
We celebrate his birthday today, 8 November 2015, with a list of his signature dishes and some of Chef Ramsay's funny quotes and insults.
On his family
"My wife, a schoolteacher, very disciplined. If you think I'm tough, trust me, and wait till you see when the children are on the naughty step. It's hilarious. So we decided that I'm going to work like a donkey and provide amazing support for the family."
On making someone cry
"Tomorrow's forecast? 100% chance of tears."
On the Kardashians
"This cake is so dark and rich, a Kardashian wants to marry it."
On a pork chop that disappointed him
"How sad does that look? Honestly, how depressing is that? It's like the map of America. Start on the east coast. There's California, where that little dark spot is Pittsburgh. We're here. God bless America."
On uncooked meat
"This chicken is so uncooked that a skilled vet could still save it."
